Mark Searles is an American Meteorologist. He currently serves as the Chief Meteorologist at WJAR-TV/NBC10 based in Barrington, Rhode Island. Mark joined the station in June 2008. In the early ’90s, he worked as an intern with KCNC-TV. He now holds the AMS Broadcast Seal of Approval and has also received some Boston/New England Emmy nominations due to his weather casting.
Mark won 2012 Best of Rhode Island Award for Television Meteorology. During his free time, he visits groups and especially school children where he talks about the weather and safety measures during dangerous weather such as hurricanes. Mark has experienced some of Southern New England’s fiercest storms, such as the Blizzard of ’78 as well as Hurricanes Gloria and Bob.

Ann was born in Pawtucket, RI to her late father Joseph, and her late mother Helen (O’Donell) Collins. Ann was a sister to the late Cornelia Collins and her brothers John and Joseph Collins. Mark grew up along with his siblings Sean P. Searles ( husband to Diane of Acworth, GA), and Kathryn L. Fraser ( wife to John of Seekonk, MA).

He has over 27 years of experience forecasting New England weather. Mark is the currently Chief Meteorologist at WJAR @NBC10. His weeknight forecasts starts at 5PM. Mark became part of the NBC 10 weather team in June 2008. Prior to that, Mark spent more than 13 years forecasting the weather of Southern New England at WLNE-TV based in Providence. For the last six years at the station, Mark served as the chief meteorologist.
His broadcasts air at 5, 5:30, 6, 7, as well as 11 p.m. every weekday. Mark started forecasting the weather as an intern in the early 1990s alongside former NBC 10 meteorologist John Ghiorse. His first professional job was at the ABC affiliate based in Burlington, Vt, WVNY-TV. There, Mark covered some major New England storms prior to returning to Providence to work alongside Ghiorse.
Before, Mark had studied aerospace engineering at the University of Colorado in beautiful Boulder, Colo. However, an internship he did in the weather department with John after his sophomore year changed Mark’s career path. He switched over to atmospheric science and physical geography. In 1994, he earned his degree.
