Erik Wemple is an American media personality. He currently serves as a columnist and media critic for The Washington Post. Formerly, Erik was the editor of the alternative weekly Washington City Paper. He started his career in the late 1990sby serving as contributing articles to the Washington City Paper.

Erik wrote the paper’s political column called “Loose Lips” from January 1999 to November 2000. From there, he became an editor. Prior to that, he served as a Washington correspondent for Inside.com as well as CableWorld magazine. The Association of Alternative Newsweeklies awarded Erik and Josh Levin an Alternative Newsweekly Award for their article called “Off Target” in 2004. The article was published in Washington City Paper.

Erik accepted to be the editor-in-chief at The Village Voice in June 2006. However, an announcement was made a month later that Erik would not assume the position, stating that “the paper’s ownership and I have failed to come to terms in our many discussions about moving forward, particularly with respect to newsroom management.”He informed the Washington City Paper staff that he was leaving the paper in February 2010 to become the new editor of TBD.com.
