Stuart Holden ( Full name: Stuart Alistair Holden ) is an American journalist and former professional soccer player who played as a midfielder. Currently, Stuart is a lead TV game analyst for Fox Sports. He works as part of the ownership group for the Spanish La Liga soccer club, RCD Mallorca. Stuart represented the United States at under-20, under-23, as well as senior levels.
He signed with English club Sunderland in early 2005 following his two seasons of college soccer at Clemson University. For the 2006 season, Stuart returned to the United States to play in Major League Soccer with the Houston Dynamo. On May 27, 2006, he made his MLS debut and scored his first professional goal on July 22, 2006, in a 1–1 home draw against New England.

He signed with English club Sunderland in early 2005 after playing two seasons of college soccer at Clemson University. On March 12, Stuart was attacked outside a bar in Newcastle for being a Sunderland player. The attack left him with a fractured left eye socket, which made him miss training with the club for two months. After he resumed training, he suffered an ankle injury that prevented him from playing for the rest of the season. Stuart was released after his six-month stay having never played for Sunderland’s first team.
Although he missed the final two months of the season, Stuart has still been voted the 2011 Bolton Wanderers Player of the Year.[29] Without him, Bolton tailspin and finished the season in the fourteenth position. In December 2008, he was called into a camp set to start in January 2009 preceding a friendly against Sweden on January 24. Stuart sustained a hip injury before the friendly match and was forced to withdraw from camp.

In the 2010–11 season, Stuart helped Bolton reach a seventh place in the Premier League and also to the FA Cup Semi-finals. However, Stuart’s season was cut short after he suffered a severe knee injury on March 19 against Manchester United at Old Trafford as he went into a tackle with Jonny Evans. Evans’ studs caught Stuart in the left knee and caused a gash that required twenty-six stitches. Also, he suffered a fracture of the femur near the knee joint and this ruled him out for a minimum of six months.

Stuart appeared 13 times in the 2006 regular season and two times as a substitute in Houston’s run to the MLS Cup 2006 championship.
