Apart from his current station, Payton also serves as a Meteorologist at WXXV-TV based in Gulfport.
He began his role at WXXV-TV in May 2017. There, Payton works as an On-Air Meteorologist, Digital Producer, and also as MMJ. He knew that he wanted to be a meteorologist at the very young age of six years. Payton remembers growing up and always glued to the TV. he used to wonder what the weather was going to do. Payton was terrified of t-storms, and he believes that fear turned into an obsession. As a native of Tornado Alley, which is just a couple of hours northwest of Dallas in the small northwest Texas town of Archer City, Payton worked very hard to make sure that his dream comes true.
Now working as a Morning Meteorologist at WWL-TV based in New Orleans, Louisiana, he considers it as a dream come true. Payton ventured to Norman, Oklahoma immediately after leaving Archer City. He studied meteorology and geography prior to his graduation from the University of Oklahoma in 2017. He is not a stranger to Southeast Louisiana’s wild weather. Prior to his arrival at WWL-TV, Payton served as a meteorologist on the Mississippi Gulf Coast for 2 years, and five months.
While there, he covered so many tornadoes, tropical storms, a hurricane, and also a few winter weather events. His time on the Gulf Coast gave Payton a new obsession in his weather world, it gave him the tropics. His first hurricane was Nate. Payton realized that tropical forecasting is where his passion is right now after living on the Gulf Coast for a few years. Currently, he is more than thrilled to get to continue to grow his tropical forecasting skills in Southeast Louisiana.
