Jeff Gianola is an American journalist. He has been working for KOIN News 6 ( CBS affiliate ) since 1998. Jeff has been broadcasting the news in Portland for more than three decades. While still a student at San Diego State University, Jeff worked as a news intern at KGTV. Eventually, the channel hired him full-time. Jeff worked his way up from a grip hauling news equipment, to becoming an assignment editor, news writer, and producer.
He worked with some of the legends in local television news. In 1980, Jeff took a cut in pay to become a news reporter at KEYT based in Santa Barbara. While there, he became an award-winning reporter and part of the local press corps that covered former USA President Ronald Reagan at the ranch. In 1983, Jeff began working for KATU in Portland as their reporter and weekend weathercaster. He was promoted in 1985 to become the main anchor for KATU.
Also, Jeff hosted Town Hall for six years and after 15 years working at KATU, he joined KOIN News 6 in 1998. For the last two decades or so, Jeff has featured his Wednesday’s Children on the news. He has a long-standing commitment to Oregon Foster Children. As a result of the program, hundreds of children have been adopted. Jeff and his wife Shannon launched the Wednesday Child Foundation, aimed at providing life-enriching opportunities for hundreds of foster children each and every year.

The San Diego, California native went to KATU, the ABC affiliate based in Portland in 1983. Before that, Jeff came from a stint at a Santa Barbara, California, station. There, he served as the general assignment reporter. After working as a weather forecaster and morning anchor at KATU for a few years, Jeff moved to become an evening anchor in 1985. He joined his fellow journalist named Julie Emry, and the two co-anchored KATU’s evening newscasts for some years in the late 1980s and early 1990s.
However, Jeff left KATU and went to join CBS affiliate KOIN in August 1998. In September 1999, he wrote, produced, and starred in a lifestyle program “Quick Tips for Easy Living”, which aired every Saturday afternoon on KOIN. Nonetheless, the program was canceled in October 1999. Anne State became Jeff’s news partner until she left broadcast news in April 2015 to care for her parents. Jeff produced the documentary titled “No Perfect Answers: The Life and Architecture of Pietro Belluschi”.
Currently, Jeff is the president and founder of Wednesday’s Child Foundation. The foundation helps to raise funds for children in foster care so that they can be able to participate in activities such as camps, lessons, and sports teams as well. Also, Jeff played a tv news reporter in the 2003 William Friedkin film titled The Hunted. His name appears in several scenes on the train. Additionally, Jeff had a cameo in the 1999 Kelley Baker film titled Birddog.
