Gio Benitez ( Full Name: Giovani “Gio” Benitez) is an American broadcast journalist who is a transportation correspondent for ABC News based in New York. He is also the co-anchor of Good Morning America. Gio appears on World News Tonight, 20/20, and Nightline.
Prior to joining ABC News in 2013, he worked as a reporter for WFOR-TV in Miami, where he reported the 2012 Presidential election and the Trayvon Martin case. In January 2010, Gio moved to Haiti to cover relief efforts after the devastating earthquake. He became the first reporter in June 2009 to ever shoot a TV story entirely with an iPhone.
Gio is the winner of three national Emmy Awards, two regional Emmy Awards and is an eight-time nominee. Prior to working as a reporter, Gio served as an investigative producer at WFOR-TV and covered stories involving Medicare fraud, public safety, and government corruption. He began at the station as an Emma L. Bowen Foundation work-study scholar.
