Rachel defended the controversial practice of the Trump administration when they separated immigrant families who were arrested while crossing the US border. Speaking of the facilities where the children were kept, Rachel said “The detention centers are far safer than the journey that these children just came on. And I will say this…People aren’t stupid. I spoke to some African-Americans who say, ‘Gosh, the conditions of the detention centers are better than some of the projects that I grew up in”.

The comments on the issues attracted immediate criticism from; Nicole Hannah Jones the New York Times Magazine writer, Jane Coaston the African American Vox reporter, Britni Danielle from Essence magazine as well as filmmaker Ava DuVernay. In 2017, Rachel congratulated Greg Gianforte of Montana who was the Republican congressional candidate for physically assaulting Ben Jacobs, a reporter for The Guardian.

The incident occurred when Greg grabbed Jacobs, threw him to the ground, and punched him. Jacobs had tried to interview Greg about the Republican health care plan, which Rachel called “Montana justice”. After Joe Biden won the UAS 2020 presidential election against President Donald Trump, Rachel claimed that there had been “fraud and shenanigans” in the election but she didn’t have any evidence.
