Chris Higgins is an American Meteorologist. He currently serves as a Global Weather Watch Officer for US Air Force Reserve in Offutt Air Force Base, Nebraska.Chris assuned the role in Aug 2019. As a Lt. Colonel in the USAFR, he serves as a Global Weather Watch Officer at USSTRATCOM at Offutt AFB, Nebraska where he is part of a team of Joint Force officers who are in charge of monitoring weather conditions around the world for possible mission impacts.
Also, Chris works at KTVI FOX 2 in St. Louis County, Missouri, as a Meteorologist. He has been working there since Feb 1994. His main role is to prepare and present weathercasts for top-rated morning newscasts. He designed and implemented a state-of-the-art storm chase vehicle, mobile weather studio, and weather lab called the “Woods Basement Systems Storm Runner.” Also, Chris is responsible for developing and implementing some specialty forecasts designed to highlight inconvenience.
Before that, Chris served as the director of operations at 12 OWF – United States Air Force Reserve in Scott AFB, Illinois from Nov 2004 to Aug 20191. While there, his responsibility was to plan and execute operational military weather integration with active duty. He as well provided atmospheric characterization and forecasted for more than 140 DOD installations in the northeast CONUS.
Additionally, Chris was responsible for human and material asset protection. Prior to that, he worked as a staff weather officer at Missouri Air National Guard from Apr 2003 to Nov 2004. While there, Chris manages daily weather operations. From May 1992 to Feb 1994, Chris served as the Chief Meteorologist at KODE News. His main role was to prepare and presented nightly weather forecasts on a top-rated southwest Missouri station.

Chris can’t forget the bitter cold winters of the late 1970s, the “Blizzard of 1982, the “Drought of 1988,” the “Great Flood of 1993”, the “New Year’s Eve Tornado,” nor even the “Good Friday Tornado.” He has been there for them all. His career in television started at FOX 2 where Chris served as an intern in 1990.
After his graduation from SLU in 1992, Chris moved into the heart of “Tornado Alley,” Joplin, Missouri, where he spent two exciting years working as Chief Meteorologist at KODE-TV. In 1994, Chris moved back to St. Louis and FOX 2 where he worked as the weekend meteorologist. Later, he moved to the lead forecaster for Fox 2 News at 11 pm (Monday to Friday) in 2014. In October 2002, Chris was honored to receive his first of eight Emmy awards from the National Academy of Television Arts as well as Science for weather forecasting and reporting. In July of 2006, Chris became the first-ever St. Louis meteorologist to receive the American Meteorological Society’s Certified Broadcast Meteorologist (CBM) designation. He realized a long-time dream in June 200, when he was commissioned as an officer in the Air Force Reserves.
During the summer of 2008, Chris deployed to the deserts of the Middle East in support of the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan. He has been honored as the United States Air Force Weather Officer of the Year for the Reserve Component twice. In 2013, Chris sent out the first real-world Tornado Watch ever issued by the United States Air Force while serving on the Storm Prediction Center backup team. In 2019, Chris was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant Colonel and he hopes to retire as a “Light Colonel” in 2023.
