Andrew Freiden Nbc12
He currently serves as NBC12’s morning meteorologist. Prior to joining the station, Andrew worked as a meteorologist at Roanoke. His longest day on the job was during Hurricane Isabel in 2003. It was a classic all-nighter. Andrew remembers trying to take a nap in the chief engineer’s office but could barely fall asleep. Although he always been into weather, his first-grade science project was about it. Andrew never thought that he would become a meteorologist while growing up. It just didn’t seem like a real job to him.
His awkward moment on camera and behind the scenes includes that one time when he was doing a live shot for the “Today” show. Katie Couric said: “Andrew! I hear you went to U.Va. Wahoowa!” Andrew proudly looked in the camera and responded with “Wahoowa wight back at you, Katie!”. As a result, Andrew was fired and given a chance to take his family for a bike ride on the brand-new Virginia Capital Trail. They went after he got off work, and it flat-out poured rain on them and Andrew was busy poking fun at his failed forecast.
Andrew getting “in the zone” to make a tough call in a forecast is all about collaboration. Thankfully, when it gets sketchy, his First Alert weather team confers on the forecast. When things aren’t clear, it’s great to have a team to help one out. Andrew’s group text messages are so helpful during tough situations.
