He led the National League in saves in 1975 with 22 en route to winning the Sporting News “NL Fireman of the Year” award. Hrabosky also finished the season with a career-high in wins posting a 13–3 record with an ERA of just 1.67.

After eight seasons in St. Louis, the Cardinals traded him to the Kansas City Royals in a swap of closers for Mark Littell. Following just two years with the Royals, Hrabosky became released and signed with the Atlanta Braves.
