As an NFL quarterback, he has played NFL games for 15 game seasons on various teams like San Diego Chargers, St. Louis Rams, Miami Dolphins, Kansas City Chiefs. He was first drafted by the San Diego Chargers in the eighth round of the 1993 NFL Draft. Trent currently serves as an NFL analyst for CBS sports along with Kevin Harlan. He is also a guest analyst for the NFL on Westwood One.

As a former NFL lineman, he played with the New York Giants on two Super Bowl championship teams, beating the New England Patriots in both games.
