He is a member of the Democratic Party and the only Louisiana Democrat serving in either chamber of Congress. Richmond served as Chairman of the Congressional Black Caucus from 2017 to 2019 and as State Representative from New Orleans to the Louisiana State House from 2000 to 2011.
Fady Qaddoura is a Palestinian American Democratic politician from Indianapolis. He was elected to represent the 30th district in the Indiana Senate in the 2020 general election. This made Qaddoura become the first Arab Muslim lawmaker in the state’s history. In the election, he defeated his Republican opponent, Sen. John Ruckelshaus, winning 52.5% of the vote.
