Fady Qaddoura is a Palestinian American Democratic politician from Indianapolis. He was elected to represent the 30th district in the Indiana Senate in the 2020 general election. This made Qaddoura become the first Arab Muslim lawmaker in the state’s history. In the election, he defeated his Republican opponent, Sen. John Ruckelshaus, winning 52.5% of the vote.

In a historical moment, Qaddoura became the first Muslim elected to the Indiana Statehouse with his victory in the November 3 2020 election over state Sen. John Ruckelshaus. He won with 52.5% to 47.5% of the vote, about a 4,000-vote margin in Senate District 30, which stretches from northern Indianapolis into southern Hamilton County. Qaddoura assumed office on November 4, 2020. His current term ends on November 5, 2024. Qaddoura reported that he was honored to be the first Muslim American elected to the Statehouse but noted that wasn’t part of his platform.
