The actress is best known for her role on the UPN television sitcom Half & Half where she appeared as “Big Dee Dee” Thorne. For her role in the Broadway production Fosse, Pettiford won a Tony Award nomination. At the age of 17 in 1978, Pettiford enrolled at the High School of Performing Arts, she then did her first-ever movie work; part of the large ensemble in the film titled The Wiz.
Pettiford starred in the 2001 film titled Glitter as Mariah Carey’s mother and had a role in Stomp the Yard in 2007. Also, the actress played Aunt Geneva in the 2011 film titled Jumping the Broom. Pettiford appeared on daytime soap operas in the 1990s, such as One Life to Live (where she originated the role of Sheila Price) and Another World.
