Armand Assante (Full name  Armand Anthony Assante Jr.) is an American actor. He is best known for his roles in the 1996 HBO television film titled Gotti where he appeared as mobster John Gotti. In the 1997 mini-series adaptation of Homer’s The Odyssey, Assante appeared as Odysseus.

He also appeared in When Nietzsche Wept as Nietzsche and also in 1982’s I, the Jury as Mickey Spillane’s Mike Hammer. Assante’s performance in Gotti earned him a nomination for the Screen Actors Guild Award and the Golden Globe Award. The same role won him a Primetime Emmy Award.

The Lords of Flatbush in 1974 was his first film. However, Assante’s work did not appear in the final cut of the film. Also, the end credits misspelled his last name as Assanti.  Playing Sylvester Stallone’s brother in Paradise Alley was his first on-screen role.
