It is all about a film made by Alexandra Pelosi, after disgraced pastor Ted. As reported by HBO, this is a follow-up to Alexandras’s 2007 HBO film Friends of God which dotted Ted as the head of the National Association of Evangelicals. Alexandra comes back to talk with ‘Pastor Ted’ about his fall from grace. The New York Times called it “strangely intriguing” due to “The film doesn’t merely document Mr. Ted’s fall from grace, it also tracks the pathology of his attempt at a comeback.

“The Trials of Ted is a strange, disturbing, but in the end heartbreaking little film that may wind up being the most powerful indictment of homophobia since Brokeback Mountain.” The Los Angeles Times said. The numerous review said Alexandra peels back the symbol enough to expose fleeting glimpses of the man underneath — peddling only himself, and, as in his door-to-door gig, unable to make the sale.”

Previously, Ted opposed same-sex marriage but allowed civil unions for homosexual pairs. Later on, Ted came to support same-sex marriage as a civil institution, claiming that while he still believes it is forbidden under Biblical law, Ted feels that people need to be careful not to inculcate [biblical law] into civil law.

Prior to the service, Levi mentioned how he applauded Ted and was eagerly anticipating meeting him. Following the sermon, Levi informs Ted that he has already preached sermons and wants to be a preacher when he grew up. Ted advises him: “I say, use your cute kid thing until you’re thirty, and by then you’ll have good content.” Afterward, Levi, Rachael, Tory, their families, and several other children take part in a Justice House of Prayer rally held by Engle in front of the U.S. Supreme Court.
