Sabrina Ahmed is an American former anchor and reporter. She most recently served as a Morning and Midday anchor for Local 5 News ( ABC affiliated) based in Des Moines. Sabrina joined the LOWA 5 News Team in May 2013 as their photojournalist. Before going to Lowa, Sabrina spent three months in Barcelona, Spain. There, she served as an intern at an international luxury lifestyle magazine called Le City Deluxe.
While working for the Magazine Le City, Sabrina was part of the pilot program to create a luxury television station in Istanbul, Turkey. Sabrina interned at 6News and also reported for the station three days a week during her last semester at KU. Before that, she worked for a sister station in Lincoln, NE, where she launched her journalism career. Although she loved Lincoln, Sabrina knew well that she belonged in Des Moines. She feels so much excited about the opportunity to be more involved in the community.

Sabrina decided to leave her journalism career behind so as to take time to explore her opportunities as she raises her children and also be closer to her family. “I am looking forward to spending more time, more valuable time with my very young and precious family,” Sabrina said. She is a West Des Moines native who joined the Local 5 News team in May 2013 as a photojournalist following her graduation from the University of Kansas where she studied broadcast journalism and economics.

Her passion for becoming a newswoman was realized when she was only nine years old. She used to watch her mother as she anchored the Lowa Lottery updates. In 2008, she became interested in politics and economics after working as a personal Page of the Speaker of the House of lower. Afterward, Sabrina ventured to the University of Kansas and became a Jayhawk. At the University, Sabrina majored in Broadcast Journalism and minored in Economics.
While still there, she became involved in the Univesity Daily Kansan by working at KUJH-TV News. Later on, Sabrina joined Sigma Kappa Sorority and was the leader of Rock Chalk Revue, the largest student-run philanthropy at the campus. During her final year at the campus, Sabrina worked for KU and was based in Barcelona, Spain. She was given a chance to start a TV program in Instanbul, Turkey, and also featured in many videos for the company while working for Luxury Lifestyle magazine called Le City Deluxe.
Through her journalism journey, Sabrina won several awards. She won a 2018 Upper Midwest Emmy®Award in the Politics/Government Program category after reporting and anchoring Local 5’s show called “Medicine in the Making: This Week in Iowa Special”.
