Rory Scovel is an American writer, comedian, and actor based in Greenville, South Carolina. In 2011, he released his first stand-up album titled Dilation. He at first performed at an open mic night in December 2003 in Spartanburg, South Carolina. Rory had just graduated from college and was working as a cameraman at the local television station called WSPA. A year later, he relocated to Washington D.C. and started his career. There, Rory performed for three years before moving to New York City.
In NYC, he performed for three years prior to moving to Los Angeles, where he currently lives. Rory participated in the Seattle International Comedy Competition in 2006 and he made it to the finals. He performed his first set for a late-night show in 2010 on Late Night with Jimmy Fallon. In 2011, Rory performed on Conan with comedian Jon Dore.
They used the premise that the show had accidentally booked two comedians. Rory would go on to perform and be interviewed by Conan countless times in the following decade. Also, he released his first stand-up album titled Dilation with Stand Up! Records. The Huffington Post named Rory and the record as one of fourteen in their “Guide To New Comedy Albums of 2011”. He was named among the 10 Comics to Watch in 2012 by Variety magazine.
In April 2012, Rory’s half-hour set was featured on Comedy Central’s The Half Hour. In the following year, he performed a show at the performance venue at Third Man Records, Jack White’s record label. They recorded the live show to tape and transferred to vinyl. However, there is no digital version of this recording. Later, Jack would executive produce Rory’s 2017 special for Netflix.
