The church has a number of campuses all over California and around the world. In 2020, weekly church attendance was 23,494 people. Rick serves as the Church’s senior pastor.
After Rick graduated in theology in 1979, he settled with his wife Kay in Saddleback Valley, in Orange County, California. He then started to find out about the people in his neighborhood and what prevented them from going to church. Rick found out that the people did not go to church due to boredom, lack of welcome for visitors, distance from everyday life, insistence on money as well as inadequate programs for their children.
With those concerns, Rich began his own church in 1980 with a Bible study group. the group consisted of only seven people. They used to hold bible study meetings as the pastor Rick and his wife’s condo. On Easter Day in 1980, the church held its first worship service in the gymnasium of a high school. In 1995, the church opened its main building in Lake Forest which consisted 3,500-seat auditorium.
The church had baptized 50,000 by 2018. In 2020, the church claimed a weekly attendance of 23,494 people and it has so far established 15 campuses in different cities.
