It was disclosed in March 2020, that Zacharias had been diagnosed with a deadly and rare cancer within his spine. It was after doctors discovered a malignant tumor on Zacharias’s sacrum as he underwent back surgery. Ravi started getting treatment for sarcoma at MD Anderson Cancer Center in Houston.

His ministry posted an update on May 8 saying Ravi’s cancer was deemed untreatable, and he was sent home to Atlanta to be with his family. Sarah Zacharias Davis, his daughter, and CEO of Ravi Zacharias International Ministries (RZIM) announced her father would be coming back to his home in Atlanta, Georgia for “whatever time the Lord gives us.” Ravi died at his Atlanta home on May 19, 2020.
