Phil Donahue ( Full name: Phillip John Donahue ) is an American film producer, writer, and media personality. He is the creator and host of The Phil Donahue Show. A television program that was later known simply as Donahue. The show became the first talk show with a format that included audience participation.
The show started in Dayton, Ohio in 1967 and ended in New York City in 1996 with a record 29-year run on national television in America. Phil’s shows often focused on issues dividing liberals and conservatives in the United States of America, including war issues, civil rights, consumer protection, and abortion. Ralph Nader was his most frequent guest for whom he campaigned in 2000.

Phil’s show entered nationwide syndication in January 1970.
In 1974, the syndicated show moved from Dayton, Ohio, to Chicago. Ten years later in 1984, Phil moved the show to New York City so that he could be near his wife Marlo Thomas. There, the show was shot at a studio at 30 Rockefeller Plaza.
In 1988, Phil, with guest vocalists Michael Feinstein, and Nancy Wilson presented a special honoring Mary Martin from the Rainbow Room with Steve Leeds and the Rainbow Room Orchestra.
The final original episode of Donahue aired on September 13, 1996, following a 29-year run—26 years in syndication and nearly 7,000 one-hour daily shows.
