Mike McConnell is an American famours and talented talk radio host. He has been working for WLW in Cincinnati since 2014. Before that, Mike worked for WGN in Chicago from 2010 to 2013. Mike launched his career in journalism as a radio host under the name Alan McConnell. In the 1970s, Mike was a rock music DJ at an album-oriented college radio station called WVUD (University of Dayton) based in Dayton, Ohio.
After working at the University Of Dayton for 5 years, Mike relocated to crosstown Album Rock WTUE based in Dayton. There, he used the name Mike McConnell because Alan Sells already being “Alan” on WTUE. Mike then moved to Cincinnati, Ohio in the spring of 1982 to flip formats on KISS 96 in Cincinnati from top 40 to rock. He worked there until 1983.

On June 7, 2010, an announcement was made that Mike would no longer work at WLW-AM because he would leave Cincinnati to become a host for WGN based in Chicago. Originally, the show ran from 8:30 a.m. (CT) to 12:30 p.m. However, the time was changed from 9 a.m. to noon as of December 12, 2011. After a regime change at Tribune Broadcasting in August 2013, Mike left the network.
The show became available through podcast only until October and Mike reached a buyout settlement on the remaining two years of his contract. During the week of June 16 to June 20, 2014, he guest hosted a number of shows on WLW. Mike then rejoined the full-time schedule for WLW As of late 2014. Currently, he hosts the 5:00 A.M. – 9:00 A.M. morning slot. Before leaving WLW for WGN, Mike held the midday time slot.

He worked for WSHE in Miami for a while before returning to Cincinnati. There, Mike filled in for Randy Michaels’ mid-day talk show on 700 WLW. Randy handed over the talk show to McConnell so that he could take on a larger role in management. At first, Mike hosted two programs, a weekday show that aired Monday to Friday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. (ET) on WLW in Cincinnati and formerly on XM Satellite Radio nationwide.
However, the show was discontinued in March 2009 by Clear Channel. In the late ’90s, Mike’s show started airing at 9 a.m. The show took one hour from Jim Scott, WLW radio morning personality’s previously five-hour time slot. The longtime evening personality at the station called Bill Cunningham switched to afternoons around this same time period where he hosted his show from noon to 3 p.m. “Midday with Mike”, (formerly calledThe Mike McConnell Show) aired on WLW from 9 a.m. to noon.
In July 2006, Premiere Radio Networks picked the show for national syndication. The show took over from the then retiring Phil Hendrie, who in 2007 returned to the radio. At its peak, the show aired on roughly 20 stations in every corner of America, including WSYR in Syracuse, WIBC in Indianapolis, and WGST in Atlanta.
Despite every effort put into the show, it did not acquire a nationwide audience which resulted in canceling of the show’s syndicated run in February 2008. Mike’s Saturday show called The Weekend with Mike McConnell, was heard every Saturday on over 100 stations from noon to 3 p.m. (ET). The show was developed in 1998 to feature rotating guest hosts and in 2004, Mike took over the show permanently.
