Nat Moore ( Full name: Nathaniel Moore) is an American retired professional football player. Currently, he works alongside Bob Griese in providing tv analysis of preseason Dolphins games. During the 1970s and 1980s, Nat was a wide receiver in the National Football League (NFL) for 13 seasons.

He also played college football for the Florida Gators. Later, he professionally played for the Miami Dolphins of the NFL.  He is famous for being the favorite passing target of Dolphins quarterbacks Bob Griese and Dan Marino. In 1972, he led the Gators as a junior with 145 rushes for 845 yards and 9 rushing touchdowns.

He also had 25 receptions for 351 receiving yards and 4 touchdown catches. In  2006, an article series was published by The Gainesville Sun and the newspaper’s sportswriters ranked  Nat as No. 49 among the 100 all-time greatest Florida Gators of the team’s first 100 seasons.

During the 1974 NFL Draft, Nat was selected by the Miami Dolphins in the third round (78th pick overall). From 1974 to 1986, Nat played for the Dolphins for 13 seasons. In 1977, he was elected to the Pro Bowl following a season in which he made 52 receptions and also led the league with 12 receiving touchdowns. In the same year, Nat had a rushing touchdown.

Nat Moore Helicopter Catch

He is immortalized in the famous “Helicopter Catch” video clip. In 1984 Nat was hit simultaneously from opposite directions by two Jets tacklers while he was making a reception against the New York Jets in Giants Stadium. The Jets tacklers sent his body spinning into the air. The catch was a crucial third-down conversion, leading to a score and a come-from-behind win in a closely contested divisional game. Nat retired in 1986 after his 13th season with the Dolphins.

By then, Nat had broken almost every receiving record of the Dolphins; his team records. However,  his teammate called Mark Clayton and Mark Duper subsequently broke the record. Nat retired with a final career receiving statistics of 510 catches for 7,547 yards and  74 touchdowns. In addition, Nat rushed for 249 yards and a touchdown, gained 856 yards on 33 kickoff returns, and returned 27 punts for 297 yards.

Apart from his playing career, Nat is famous for his humanitarian work and philanthropy. The NFL voted him as “Man of the Year,” in  1984, and was given the honor given to any player who offers outstanding service to his community.  In 1986, he won the Byron White Humanitarian Award  In 1998, Nat founded an organization called The Nat Moore Foundation, which works with disadvantaged youths in the Miami-Dade County area.

Nat was added to the Miami Dolphins Honor Roll on December 5, 1999. Nat served as a football broadcaster for Florida Gators football games on Sun Sports until 2011. As an announcer, Nat was notorious for adding an “s” to the last names of  different players ( eg Chris Leak became “Chris Leaks,” while Percy Harvin became “Harvins.”

As the vice president of the Miami Dolphins organization, Nat oversees the Miami Dolphins Alumni Association. He is also the executive director of the NFL Super Bowl Football Clinic.
