Larry Madowo is a Kenyan journalist, international correspondent, broadcaster, and writer. Currently, he is a CNN International Correspondent. Prior to joining CNN, Larry was the North America Correspondent for the BBC, based in Washington, DC. He was named a Young Global Leader by the World Economic Forum in 2020.

Larry was also ranked among the Most Influential Africans 2018 by New African Magazine. His successful career has included stints in New York, Nairobi, London, and Johannesburg. Madowo was born in Barding village in Siaya County and grew up in Siaya, Kisumu, and Nairobi. His father Mr. Madowo died in 1994 when he was 7 years old. Madowo’s mother, Treazer Anyango Madowo, was a primary school teacher. She was a divisional Knut official who enthusiastically took part in the 1997 strike. Treazer rallied her colleagues to go out onto the streets following a strike directive from the then KNUT officials John Katumanga and Ambrose Adongo Adeya. Madowo’s mother died in 2001 leaving him and his only sibling Liz Madowo orphans. Liz is a graduate of Moi University and a stylist as well as a fashion blogger.
