John Bolton Biography

John Bolton (Full Name: John Robert Bolton) is a popular American attorney, diplomat, Republican consultant, and political analyst. He served as the 25th United States Ambassador to the United Nations from 2005 until 2006 and as the 26th United States National Security Advisor from 2018 until 2019.

John worked for President Ronald Reagan as a United States Assistant Attorney General from 1985 until 1989. He was in the State Department as Assistant Secretary of State for International Organization Affairs from 1989 through 1993, and Under Secretary of State for Arms Control and International Security Affairs from 2001 until 2005. John was an advocate of the Iraq War as a Director of the Project for the New American Century, which preferred him to go to war with Iraq.

He was the U.S. Ambassador to the United Nations from August 2005 until December 2006, as a recess appointee by President George W. Bush. John left at the end of his recess appointment in December 2006 due to he was unlikely to win confirmation in the Senate, of which the Democratic Party had control at the time. He afterward served for President Donald Trump as a National Security Advisor from April 2018 until September 2019.

John was born in Baltimore, Maryland, to his parents Virginia Clara “Ginny” (née Godfrey), a housewife, and Edward Jackson “Jack” Bolton, a Baltimore fireman. He was brought up in the working-class neighborhood of Yale Heights.

John studied at Yale College, receiving a Bachelor of Arts in 1970. Later on, he attended Yale Law School from 1971 until 1974, where he shared classes and student housing with his friend Clarence Thomas, receiving a Juris Doctor in 1974.
