Early in the 1990s, a manuscript of the book with the working title “Triple Ought” was made available as shareware. Huntington House published a printed edition of it. The book was republished by “print on demand” publisher Xlibris after Huntington House went out of business. Ulysses Press began releasing the book in paperback form in April 2009.
It was placed number 6 in Amazon.com’s total book sales rankings at the beginning of April 2009, just after its debut, but it dropped to number 33 a week later. It dropped to position 98 at the end of the month. Because it was a niche title and had not been evaluated by the main book review publications, the book’s initial success astounded librarians.
The sudden demand caused libraries to race to buy copies of the book in order to keep up.
