Gary Koch is an American professional golfer, golf course designer, and currently sportscaster. He formerly played on the PGA Tour, Nationwide Tour, and Champions Tour. The Baton Rouge, Louisiana native grew up in Florida where he won the Florida Open in 1969  at the age of 16 as an amateur. Also, Gary won the U.S. Junior Amateur in 1970.

The 1969 King High golf team consisting of  Gary, Eddie Pearce, Brian Hawke, and Phil Reid won the Florida high school title. In so doing, the team scored a record that stood for thirty years. Gary accepted an athletic scholarship to attend the University of Florida based in Gainesville, Florida after high school. While there, he became a member of Sigma Alpha Epsilon Fraternity (Florida Upsilon Chapter).

As an undergraduate from 1971 to 1974, Gary played for coach Buster Bishop’s Florida Gators men’s golf team in National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) competition. Gary was a four-time first-team All-Southeastern Conference (SEC) selection as a Gator golfer. He was also a three-time All-American.  Gary was also a member of the Gators teams that won SEC championships in 1973 and 1974 as well as an NCAA Championship in 1973.

Individually,  Gary was a two-time medalist in the SEC tournament in 1973 and 1974. Also, he was the runner-up behind Ben Crenshaw in the 1973 NCAA championship tournament. Gary’s Gators teammates included Andy North, Phil Hancock, and fellow future PGA Tour professionals Woody Blackburn and Andy Bean.
