Fredricka Whitfield is a popular American journalist who anchors the weekend edition of CNN Newsroom. She is based on CNN’s world headquarters in Atlanta. Fredricka also works as a fill-in and substitute host for CNN’s At This Hour With Kate Bolduan.
During her time at Howard University, she was a news anchor for campus radio station WHUR. Following college, Fredricka served at WPLG-TV in Miami. She was also an Atlanta-based correspondent for NBC Nightly News from 1995 until 2001. Fredricka was born in Burtonsville, Maryland, to her parents Nola and Mal Whitfield. Her father Mal is a Former middle-distance runner and Olympian who received a total of three gold medals at the 1948 and 1952 Olympic Games.
Her father also worked in the U.S. Armed Forces during World War II with the Tuskegee Airmen. Mal died on November 19, 2015, at the age of 91. Fredricka has two siblings named Malvin Whitfield Jr., Lonnie and Nyna Konishi. Her mother Nola was Nigerian. Fredricka is of Black ethnicity and holds American nationality.
