She has participated as a contestant and sometimes as a judge on reality television cooking contests, and is a Top Chef television series alum.
From 2001 until 2002, Elizabeth taught professional pastry courses in Japan; and, from 2002 through 2003, she worked as the chef on a team pursuing research for American/European pastries for Barilla in Parma, Italy. She is the restaurant owner of Citizen Cake and Ice Cream Parlor in Pacific Heights, together with the popular SOMA restaurant bar and lounge Orson.

In 1997, Elizabeth created Citizen Cake, a dessert cafe at its debut location in the Mission District at 82-14th Street, San Francisco in collaboration with coffee roaster Bob Vorhees. The cafe remained there until 2000 when Elizabeth moved the restaurant to 399 Grove Street, in the Hayes Valley neighborhood. A second spinoff location of Citizen Cake was based in the Virgin Megastore on Market Street in San Francisco. From 2010 until 2011, Citizen Cake relocated to 2125 Fillmore Street in Pacific Heights prior to closing.
The restaurant Orson was co-possessed alongside partner Sabrina Riddle and began operating in 2008 in SoMA at 508-4th Street, San Francisco. Sabrina took two years and used 4 million dollars to build and became designed by the Zack/de Vito firm. Sabrina closed following approximately three years in October 2011.
