She began her journalism career working at a public radio KBIA-FM based in Columbia, Mo. Soon after, Donna started working at KOMU-TV based in Columbia after leaving the KBIA-FM. Donna spent almost two-and-a-half years while reporting and anchoring weekend newscasts at WHOI-TV based in Peoria, IL.
She then made a comeback to the Kansas City area to work at KMBC-TV. There, Donna serves as the co-anchor of the “FirstNews” show and her reporting can be seen during the KMBC 9 News at 5 p.m. and 6 p.m. When she joined the station, this is what Donna had to say “I’m lucky to have this job because I meet new and different people every day,” says Donna. “I learn something new every day.”
The Kansas City Press Club recognized Donna for her work as a reporter. She and Tim Twyman, a photojournalist earned a Silver Award for a report they covered on a Vietnam Veteran whose rehabilitation ended up helping hundreds of others who were greatly affected by war. The two workmates were also nominated for an Emmy due to the same story.
Donna is an active member of the Permanent Memorial Day Committee based in Kansas City. The committee recognizes veterans of all wars throughout the year. She also works on an advisory board for Harmony. Donna speaks at many fundraisers and schools throughout the year. Additionally, she is involved in activities that support the Truman Library. this is a gem located in her hometown of Independence.
