David Chalian ( Full Name: David Marc Chalian) is a popular American journalist and political analyst. Currently, he works as a political director at CNN succeeding Mark Preston. Previously, David worked as Yahoo! News’ Washington bureau chief, but was fired from his role following he was overheard on a live microphone during an online broadcast from the 2012 Republican National Convention.
He afterward apologized for his remarks. Following graduating from Northwestern, David joined NY1, a 24-hour cable news television channel based in New York City, and covered the nightly news program, Inside City Hall. He later served as political director for ABC News and also starred as a political analyst on ABC World News Tonight, Nightline, and Good Morning America. At ABC, David created and co-anchored the daily political webcast, “Top Line”.
In January 2009, he received an Emmy Award as part of the team that produced ABC News’s presidential inauguration coverage. He next served as the political editor and an on-air political analyst for the PBS NewsHour and afterward as Vice President for Video Programming at Politico. During his time at the PBS NewsHour, he oversaw the political coverage that received the prestigious Walter Cronkite Award for excellence in television political journalism.
