Chuck Scarborough ( Full name Charles Bishop Scarborough III) is an American journalist, narrator, and author. He currently serves as the lead news anchor at WNBC, Chuck anchors the News 4 New York every weeknight at 6 pm. Chuck has worked as the lead news anchor at the station since 1974. He as well appeared on NBC News.
Prior to that, Chuck worked in the United States Air Force and he holds a commercial pilot certificate. His journalism career started in Mississippi where he served as a reporter at WLOX-TV based in Biloxi. He later left the station to join WDAM-TV based in Laurel. Prior to joining WAGA-TV based in Atlanta. Chuck’s major market Anchoring job started in 1972 at WNAC-TV based in Boston.

In his final broadcast at WNAC-TV, Chuck ended the newscast with a commentary. He identified the race issue as the biggest challenge facing Boston. A few months later, Boston erupted into racial unrest due to federal court order to end its policy of de facto racial segregation in the public schools.
WNAC had been the perennial trailer in Boston’s three VHF tv news broadcasts, with Chuck as anchor the station was able to best its competitors in the 6 pm newscast ratings. He came to NBC News in March 1974 serving as sole anchor of WNBC-TV’s then-new 5:00 PM newscast, NewsCenter 4 which was later renamed News 4, New York. Eventually, he got promoted to be the lead anchor at 6 pm as well as 11 pm.
In 2003, Chuck became the unofficial “dean” of New York-area tv news anchors, by then, WABC-TV anchor Bill Beutel retired after 37 years of service. In 2011, Chuck surpassed Beutel as New York’s most talented English-language news anchor. Five years later, Chuck took over Rafael Pineda of Spanish-language WXTV as the longest-serving anchor in New York tv history.
