Chris Marlowe (Full name: Christian “Chris” Marlowe) is an American professional sportscaster from  Denver, Colorado. Currently, he serves as the play-by-play announcer for the Denver Nuggets of the National Basketball Association. Chris announces the Denver Nuggets in the fall, winter, and spring. In the summer, he serves as a play-by-play announcer for the Association of Volleyball Professionals.

Previously, Chris was a collegiate basketball and volleyball player. The journalist played on the US National Men’s Volleyball Team. He also played beach volleyball extensively and won countless tournaments on the Open beach circuit. Apart from broadcasting and playing, Chris also served as a captain of the US Men’s volleyball team. During his tenure, his team won the gold medal at the 1984 Olympic Games.

When the Bruins were not in the NCAA championship tournament, Al Scates, UCLA head coach had been doing commentary for ABC. The Bruins made the final in 1978 and ABC Network asked Scates if he knew someone who could replace him in the booth.

Scates got to know Chris as he used to work out at the Bruin gym. So, Scates recommended him. His first job was to provide color commentary for the NCAA championship match between  Pepperdine and UCLA. Chris found out that he enjoyed broadcasting, and that he was perfect at it.  The journalist continued to do color commentary for both indoor as well as beach volleyball between acting jobs and his own volleyball commitments for the next several years.

Chris made a serious commitment to sports broadcasting immediately after he completed his athletic career with the 1984 Olympic games. The journalsit took courses in the skills of the trade as well. He credits Lou Riggs, sportscasting expert of Santa Monica College for taking his time to train him in sports broadcasting fundamentals. After  Chris started with Prime Ticket, Lynn Shackleford was his first partner on play-by-play. He then teamed up with Keith Erickson.

After Erickson quit, an opportunity opened up the play-by-play spot that Chris had been preparing for. The journalist moved over to play-by-play and former teammate Paul Sunderland joined him in the booth as his analyst. The pair knew each other well because, in 1975, they had played together on the U.S. National Indoor Volleyball Team.

The duo called their first volleyball event in 1985, announcing the college regional playoff match between Pepperdine and San Diego State. In 19992, Chris and Paul’s first work broadcasting at Olympic games was at the Summer Olympics in Barcelona in 1992.  They also teamed up for a second time during the Olympics in Atlanta, and four years later in Sydney.

Later, Chris decided to make a major step-up by moving from analyst/color commentator to play-by-play. Also, it was not easy, Chris knew that it only meant many more broadcast opportunities.
