Trump responded by saying that he does not think that’s racist at all. Additionally, she followed up by suggesting that “major left-wing media” had become allies with China to promote “communist party narratives” concerning the coronavirus.

Criticism from all over the political spectrum was leveled at Chanel for the question was made fun of as a “softball” question. During the Task Force briefing on March 30, she compared the “children who were murdered by their mothers through elective abortions each day” to the rising number of Americans dying from the coronavirus.

The White House Correspondents’ Association eliminated OAN and Chanel from the White House briefing room press on April 1, 2020, because of violating the Association’s COVID-19 attendance policy. The policy, attributed by the Association and based on the Center for Disease Control COVID-19 recommendation, permitted only 14 reporters in the briefing room every day and that all reporters occupy a seat. Correspondents were rotated to make sure that all got access to the briefing while keeping safe social distancing recommendations.

Chanel attended both press briefings on March 31 and April 1, when OAN was not on the rotation list. Charles Herring who is the OAN president said that Rion was asked to participate in the press briefing outside of the White House Correspondent’s Association revolving list. She also said that she was a guest of the White House press secretary named Stephanie Grisham. The following day on April 2, Chanel went back to the White House briefing room, again, quoting Grisham’s invitation.
