Byron York Biography

Byron York is a popular American columnist, conservative correspondent, pundit, and author. As of now, he works as a chief political correspondent for the Washington Examiner and a Fox News contributor. Byron has reported the Bush, Obama, Trump, and now Biden administrations, and Congress and each presidential campaign since 2000.

He is the writer of The Vast Left Wing Conspiracy, an account of liberal activism in the 2004 election. Formerly Byron served at National Review as a White House correspondent. He is also a syndicated columnist. Before joining National Review, he worked at CNN Headline News as a news producer and at The American Spectator as an investigative reporter.

Byron is also best known as the son of television personality Tom York who received a regional Emmy Award in 1995. Tom was the master of ceremonies for the induction ceremonies for the Alabama Sports Hall of Fame for over a quarter century and was himself inducted into ASHOF in 1996. Tom authored a book about the ASHOF in 2001.

Early Life And Education

Byron was born in Birmingham, Alabama, to his parents Tom York and Helen Hamilton York. Bryon’s father Tom was an American television personality, who served at WBRC in Birmingham, Alabama, from 1957 until 1989.  Tom died on August 1, 2021, aged 96. He is well recalled for The Tom York Morning Show, which was the station’s primary morning show for 32 years. In the 1960s, Fannie Flagg worked as his co-host.

The show was so famous that when WBRC’s parent network, ABC, began its morning show, Good Morning America, WBRC refused to carry it since it would have required moving Tom’s show to another timeslot or canceling it altogether. WBRC started airing the second hour of GMA in the early 1980s and only began airing the entire show in 1989 after York retired.  Byron’s mother Helen died on October 13, 2021. He received his bachelor’s degree from the University of Alabama at Tuscaloosa and his master’s from the Campus of Chicago.
