He worked as a writer for a few years prior to becoming the editor-in-chief, a role he served from 2012 to 2014. while still there, Ben began freelancing for Simmons’ previous website called Grantland because he never meant to write only about baseball but wanted to write about other topics as well.

After freelancing for a few years, Ben joined Grantland full-time after the editors at Grantland liked his work. However, the site was closed in October 2015.
