Austin Carr ( Full name: Austin George Carr ) is an American retired professional basketball player. He currently serves as the Director of Community Relations for the Cavaliers. Austin played for the Dallas Mavericks, the Cleveland Cavaliers, as well as Washington Bullets of the National Basketball Association (NBA).

Austin played two more seasons with the Cavaliers and had a very strong 1978–79 campaign, averaging 17 points for every game and also shooting a career-best 47.5% from the field in 82 games. However, The Cavaliers failed to reach the playoffs for the first time since 1975 after finishing with a 30–52 record. Also, the team failed to reach the playoffs in 1980 during Austin’s final season with the team. He averaged 16.2 points, 3 rebounds, and 2.9 assists per game throughout his 9-year tenure with Cleveland.

The 1980–81 season would be his last as an NBA player. With the Dallas Mavericks and Washington Bullets, Austin appeared in 47 games in total. His Carr’s #34 jersey is among the seven jerseys retired by the Cavaliers. On April 2, 2007,  an announcement was made that  Austin, along with Dick Groat, Dick Barnett, and some coaches would be inducted to the second class of the College Basketball Hall of Fame. During the Pittsburgh – Notre Dame men’s basketball game on February 21, 2008. Notre Dame recognized Austin as their all-time leading scorer.

Austin broke his foot during the 1971 preseason and missed the first month of the season. He was sidelined again by another foot injury in less than one month after returning to the court. In addition, he averaged 3.6 rebounds and appeared in 81 games.

Austin was selected to the 1974 Eastern Conference All-Star team as a result of his performance on the court. This became his only All-Star Game appearance.
