It was reported in July 2020 that the Carolina Hurricanes had not come to terms with their play-by-play John Forslund on a new deal. The team later announced that Mike, an on-ice reporter would take over play-by-play roles for the team’s games on FOX Sports Carolinas. Mike became part of the Canes’ television crew at the start of the 2016-2017 season. Before that, he worked for Buzz Sports Radio and 99.9 the Fan in Raleigh.
