He landed his first part-time job in 1982 at the age of 16 working at WCPK-AM 1600 in Chesapeake, Virginia. While in Highschool years, Todds worked with numerous stations in Hampton Roads, Virginia including WNVZ, WVAB, and WNIS. Additionally, he worked with WVBR, the Cornell student-run station during her days in college.
He began his first full-time radio job at WRSR-FM (97Star) in Hampton Roads, Virginia in 1986. The station later reverted to the call letters WGH-FM and the name MJ Kelli was first used at the station.
