Tedy Bruschi Stroke

On February 15, 2005, he woke up with various symptoms such as left-sided numbness, weakness, and vision problems. By then, Tedy was only 31 years old. This happened three days after playing in the 2005 Pro Bowl, Tedy was taken to Massachusetts General Hospital, where he was diagnosed with an ischemic stroke. According to the doctor, the stroke was caused by a blocked artery in the brain.

It was discovered that he also had a patent congenital heart defect called foramen ovale that leaves a small hole in the wall separating the left and right atria of the heart. Tedy announced he would sit out the 2005 NFL season following several months of rehabilitation working with Spaulding Rehabilitation Hospital in Boston.

The Patriots announced on October 16, 2005, that  Tedy had been medically cleared to resume playing football. The analyst rejoined the team on the practice field three days after the announcement. On October 29, The Patriots officially activated him and he played the following night against the Buffalo Bills. ESPN’s broadcast of the game featured several interviews on Tedy’s return. Following the game, he was named AFC Defensive Player of the Week.

He layed most of the remaining games that season, apart from the final regular-season game against Miami and the first playoff game against Jacksonville. In 2005, he was named the NFL Comeback Player of the Year. He shared the honor with Carolina Panthers wide receiver called Steve Smith.
