Sway Calloway is an American rapper, executive producer, journalist, and radio personality. He is well known for hosting music, news, as well as cultural programming. Sway is the former co-host of the nationally syndicated radio show called The Wake Up Show as one half of the duo Sway & King Tech. Currently, Sway hosts his own show called “Sway in the Morning” on SiriusXM Shade45 and the MTV show TRLAM.
Sway joined DJ King Tech immediately after high school. The duo performed at different San Francisco Bay Area clubs. Together, Sway and DJ King released independent albums and later a major label record deal with Giant Records. In 1990, they released an album, Concrete Jungle that got them the job of co-hosting their own show on radio station KMEL. In 2005, they released another album, Back 2 Basics on Sway and Tech’s own record label, Bolo Entertainment, and distributed by Universal Music.

He got his first locks in the 1990s. In an interview, Sawy said that people didn’t understand it and because is from Oakland, they used to laugh at it. He said that there are rasters in his family and he wanted to study the principles and beliefs of Rastafarianism. However, it did not dawn on Sway that there were not a lot of people with ‘locks who worked in the music business. Due to his locks, he was easily identifiable. His cousin helped Sway maintain his locks and they grew very long.
His cousin used to wash shampoo and condition them for him. He also maintained them from the root. In 2019, Sway cut off his locks. He gave her sister the honor of cutting the locks the day they buried their father. Sway’s father was a homeless dude and Sway had met him once in his adult life. Sway had to groom his body for the sed off and part of the preparations was to cut of his father’s locks which were really nasty. While cutting them, Sawy thought that he resembled his father so much and something moved him and decided to cut his locks off.
