While working there, he provided coverage on tornadoes, Blizzard, and snow. Prior to working in Denver, Steve was working for WBBM-Channel 2 in Chicago where he learned about the lake Effect Snow and winter were brutal. He also worked for KPIX-Channel 5 in San Francisco.
Steve began his weather career at KHSL in Chico where he spent two years before leaving for KFTY in Santa Rosa. During his time in Santa Rosa, Steve acquired knowledge of Bay Area weather and also experienced an El Nino year between 1982-1983.
He later proceeded to KICU-Channel 36 in San Jose where he was laid off after the station made cutbacks and eliminated the weather. This contributed to Steve’s transition to an on-air host for San Jose Sharks hockey in 1993-1994. After the season was over, Steve was left jobless and he decided to go back to the weather career at KMST in Monterey.
