Stephen Colbert ( Stephen Tyrone Colbert) is an American television host, actor, political commentator, producer, writer, and comedian. He is best known as the host of the satirical Comedy Central program called The Colbert Report. Stephen hosted the show from 2005 to 2014. Also, he hosted the CBS talk program called The Late Show with Stephen Colbert launched in September 2015.
Originally, Stephen studied to be a dramatic actor. However, he became interested in improvisational theater while still attending Northwestern University. At the University, Stephen met Second City director Del Close. Stephen first performed professionally as an understudy for Steve Carell at Second City Chicago. There, his troupe mates included Paul Dinello and Amy Sedaris.
Those were comedians with whom Stephen developed the sketch comedy series named Exit 57. He as well wrote and performed on the short-lived Dana Carvey Show before he collaborated with Sedaris and Dinello again on the cult television series called Strangers with Candy. Stephen gained even more attention for his role on the latter as closeted gay history teacher Chuck Noblet.
His work as a correspondent on Comedy Central’s news-parody series called The Daily Show gained him wide recognition. In 2005, Stephen left The Daily Show and became the host of The Colbert Report. After The Daily Show’s news-parody concept, his report was a parody of personality-driven political opinion shows such as The O’Reilly Factor. In this, Stephen portrayed a caricatured version of conservative political pundits.
