Sherman Desselle WDSU

He became happy to be a part of the WDSU News Team. His career in broadcasting became very unique.

He went back home to Alexandria, Louisiana after studies and served at a neighborhood grocery store deli until Sherman figured out his next move. Sherman one day sparked a conversation with a customer as he prepared their order. That customer happened to be the content manager at KALB News Channel 5.

He received a chance to tour the station, and that visit landed Sherman an interview and a chance to be hired as a part-time photographer. Sherman tossed away the apron to enjoy the fast pace and unpredictability of journalism, and also serving alongside talented reporters.

Historic flooding for Central Louisiana not only forced Sherman to be in front of the camera for the first time but also caused him to connect with people on and off camera unlike he ever imagined.

From there he started storytelling that won several Associated Press awards – from a small documentary on the Cuban Prison Riots of 1987 to the story of a former drug dealer-turned substance abuse counselor. Sherman serves also as a member of the National Association of Black Journalists.
