Sarah Long is an American meteorologist. Currently, Long serves as a meteorologist at WMTW News 8 in Portland, Maine. Previously coming to Maine’s Total Weather team in 2014, she had forecasted for 11 years in southern Maine.
She has received both the American Meteorological Society’s (AMS) Broadcast Seal of Approval and the Certified Broadcast Meteorologist Seal. For a period of 6 years, Long worked on the Board on Women and Minorities for the AMS. In addition, she also spent 10 years as a mentor for DataStreme, where Long trained weather education, resource teachers.

She received her Bachelor of Science in Meteorology at UMASS Lowell while also interning at the FAA, a private forecasting firm, research facilities, and eventually the Mt. Washington Observatory. That was her time spent interning on the summit of Mt. Washington that determined her fate after graduation.

She climbed to the summit to begin work for the non-profit Mt. Washington Observatory at first as Observer, then Chief Meteorologist, and finally Summit Manager. Four years of living and serving on the top of New England and experiencing some of the best weather in the northeast (and the world!) Long came back down to sea level and began her broadcast career.
She worked as a Trustee for the Mt. Washington Observatory and was part of their Education and Development Committees for twelve years. Long now works on the board of WinterKids. Long has been a featured meteorologist in two publications about New England Weather – “Extreme New England Weather” published in 2010 and “Great New England Storms of the 20th Century” published in 2007. She has also been a game show host – for a local quiz show testing Maine’s high school pupils on their STEM knowledge.
