RR Reno ( Full name: Russell Ronald Reno III) is an American journalist, author, and writer. He currently serves as the editor of a conservative Christian journal with a wide readership called First Things magazine. Formerly, RR was a professor of theology and ethics at Creighton University. He has been serving as an editor of First Things since 2011.
During the COVID-19 pandemic, RR courted controversy by downplaying the risks of the virus. The journalist attacked public policy as well as the steps taken by churches to control the outbreak at the expense of regular economic and ecclesial activity. RR claimed that the pandemic “is not and never was a threat to society.” He claimed that mask mandates were “enforced cowardice” followed by “men, not cowards.”

RR was an active participant in the Episcopal Church, where he served as Senior Warden of the Church of the Resurrection in Omaha, Nebraska from 1991 to 1995.

From 2001 to 2003, he was also a member of the Theology Committee of the Episcopal Church’s House of Bishops. RR was received into the Catholic Church on September 18, 2004. About his conversion, RR said “As an Episcopalian, I needed a theory to stay put, and I came to realize that a theory is a thin thread easily broken. The Catholic Church needs no theories.” Apart from his academic pursuits, RR has been an avid rock climber and mountaineer since he was young.
