Robert S Kapito is a popular American businessman and investor who is the founder and president of BlackRock, the New York City-based investment management firm. He works as a member of the board of trustees of the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania and is one of the Harvard Kennedy School Executive Education Faculty. Robert is also president of the board of directors for the Hope & Heroes Children’s Cancer Fund and head of the board of directors for Periwinkle Theatre for Youth, a national non-profit arts-in-education organization.
He won the 2009 Joseph Wharton Leadership Award, the Marine Corps-Law Enforcement Foundation’s 2010 Semper Fidelis Award as well as is a regular public speaker on best practices in investment management. Previously, Robert joined First Boston in 1979 following graduating from Wharton and began in the Public Finance Department. Robert was hired by Larry Fink to serve at First Boston, where they were instrumental in pioneering the mortgage-backed security market in the United States. He left First Boston to finish his MBA degree and came back to the firm in 1983 in the Mortgage Products Group.
