Rex  Reed ( Full name: Rex Taylor Reed ) is an American television host, occasional actor, and film critic. He currently writes the column called “On the Town with Rex Reed” for The New York Observer. Rex earned his journalism degree in 1960 from Louisiana State University.

He then started writing film and play reviews for the university’s newspaper called The Daily Reveille as well as the Baton Rouge’s newspaper called The Morning Advocate. Following his graduation from LSU, Rex moved to New York City hoping to find success as an actor. However, the journalist was hired to work at the publicity department of 20th Century Fox.

Rex provided many interviews for The New York Times as well as New York later in the decade. At the time, it was the Sunday magazine of the New York Herald Tribune. The Herald-Tribune folded in 1966 and Rex became one of the music critics for HiFi/Stereo Review ( currently Sound & Vision). He worked there until early 1973.
