Previously, Rafael worked as a news reporter at WSBT22. Prior to that, he worked as a producer at WRTV. He was also a reporter /producer at WANE 15 and a news reporter at KLBK.

He has served as a News Intern for 6 months at various stations. These stations include; WISH-TV located in Indianapolis, the National Association of Hispanic Journalists located in New York City, and lastly at WXIN-TV located in Indianapolis. His first official job as a journalist was in July 1992, when he was hired at Kyma Tv as a Multimedia journalist. He worked at the station for 9 months before moving to Texas. In Texas, Rafael worked as a news reporter at the KLBK-TV News.
Later on, Rafael got a job invitation to serve as a Producer at WANE 15. Serving as a producer for a year he left the station and was employed as a producer at WRTV. He worked at the station for 2 years, then left for WSBT22. While at WSBT22, he served as a News Reporter for 11 months. He received an invitation to work as an investigative reporter at his current station in February 1998.
