He released the screenplay of the 2016 movie adaptation of A Monster Calls and became the founder and writer of the Doctor Who spin-off series Class. Following graduating, Patrick worked as a corporate writer for a cable company. He released his first story in Genre magazine in 1997 and was working on his first novel when he went to London in 1999.
